2017 BENEFIT PROGRAMS 

As provided for in the MFNCT Trust Agreement, the MFNCT is offering benefit programs to all Members of Michipicoten First Nation in the areas of education, health and home maintenance assistance for the 2017 Fiscal Year.

Each Member is eligible to apply for monetary benefits under ONE program during the period beginning January 1, 2017 and ending November 15, 2017, with the exception of the Membership Event Sponsorship Program, this is a new program being offered by MFNCT.  Any applications received after November 16, 2017 will not be reviewed.  Benefits not collected from the 2017 Fiscal Year will not carry forward to 2018.

The MFNCT Board will meet quarterly to approve the disbursement of benefits (March, May, August & December), and benefits will be delivered one month following approval.

All requests for benefits must be received in writing with the following content:

All programs will be administered on a first come, first serve basis. Distribution of benefits will be capped at one hundred and fifty thousand dollars ($150,000.00) for the 2017 fiscal year to remain within budget limitations.  Once this amount has been distributed, all programs will be closed.  To promote fairness amongst all age groups the total amount of distribution will be allocated in the following proportions:

We would like to encourage adult members of Michipicoten First Nation utilize the Home Maintenance and Health Promotion programs.  As we have set aside the Education Program Incentives designed for the children and youth of Michipicoten.

High School Graduation Incentive Program

 

Program Outline: Each Member who has successfully graduated from a recognized Secondary Institution in the 2016-2017 school years is eligible to receive five hundred dollars ($500.00). Up to 10 Graduates per year.

Supporting Documentation Required: Along with the written request to the MFNCT, Members must provide a copy of their 2017 High School Diploma.

Trust Agreement: Provided for under section 11.4 (d).

Elementary and Secondary School Incentive Program

 

Program Outline: Each Member who is registered in an Elementary or Secondary School and has successfully passed the 2016-2017 school years is eligible to receive one hundred and fifty dollars ($150.00).

Supporting Documentation Required: Along with the written request to the MFNCT, Members must provide a copy of their school report card indicating that they have passed the 2016-2017 school year.  High school students must submit term 1 and term 2 final reports and must pass at least 6 of the 8 credits per year.

Trust Agreement: Provided for under section 11.4 (d).

Home Maintenance Assistance Program

 

Program Outline: Each Member who has incurred an expense to maintain their home is eligible to receive one hundred and fifty dollars ($150.00).

Supporting Documentation Required:  Along with the written request to the MFNCT, Members must provide copies of receipts to verify that they have incurred an expense to maintain their home. Receipts for the purchases of utilities, heating fuel, materials, labour, etc. will be acceptable.

Trust Agreement: Provided for under section 11.4 (b).

Health Promotion Program 

Program Outline:  Each Member who has incurred an expense related to health or has participated in an activity that promotes health is eligible to receive one hundred and fifty dollars ($150.00).

Supporting Documentation Required:  Along with the written request to the MFNCT, Members must provide copies of receipts to verify that they have incurred an expense to support or maintain their health.  Receipts for the purchases of health devices, medication, appointment travel, gym membership, recreational sports, etc. will be acceptable.

Trust Agreement: Provided for under section 11.4 (g).

 Membership Event Sponsorship Program 

Program Outline:  Any community event (Limited to Michipicoten, Wawa, and Sault Ste. Marie) that is hosted/coordinated and/or facilitated by Michipicoten members and that is primarily held for the benefit of members in the areas that are focused on education, health, culture and community is eligible to receive sponsorship up to a maximum of five thousand dollars ($5,000.00).  This program is not intended to sponsor groups to attend conferences and/or training sessions.

Supporting Documentation:  Along with the written request to the MFNCT, the Program Host/Coordinator/Facilitator must provide an outline of the community event specifying: (1) the number of members anticipated to attend, (2) the nature/purpose of the event and how it relates to education, health, culture and community, (3) the amount of funds requested, and (4) identification of what the funds will be used for.

Summer Maintenance Student

New for 2017

The Michipicoten First Nation Community Trust will be providing a Summer Employment Opportunity for a Summer Maintenance Student to help beautify our outdoor space at the MFNCT Office located at 16 Whitesands Drive on Michipicoten First Nation.

Responsibilities will include keeping our grounds clean, free of garbage and debris, levelling ground, laying down soil, planting grass seed, and watering lawn, mowing lawn, trimming trees, other landscaping duties and assisting in the preparation for our AGM in August.

This will be a part time summer position (21 hours per week); open to Students of Michipicoten First Nation, preference will be given to candidates returning to school in September.
